Pain Management
Pain Management
TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) uses many modalities to treat and manage pain.
Acupuncture works by inserting needles into specific points of the body. These points lie along meridians, or channels that run throughout and over the body. Acupuncture works by regulating the energy flow and function with the use of needles to stimulate and balance the energy along the meridians. Acupuncture increases blood flow, reduces inflammation, relieves pain, and may hasten healing times.
Other modalities used for pain management that may be used in combination with acupuncture include tuina, cupping, gua sha, heat, and moxibustion.
Common pain conditions treated with acupuncture:
◾ Neck and back pain
◾ Joint pain
◾ Tendonitis
◾ Sciatica
◾ Neuropathy
◾ Acute pain
◾ Chronic pain
◾ Post surgery healing
Treatments may use acupuncture either alone, or in combination with different modalities.
Treatments may vary based on the necessity for each individual, however, the treatment course for acute pain generally includes twice weekly treatments for 2-3 weeks as needed. The treatment course for chronic pain generally includes once weekly treatments for 4-6 weeks as needed.
